In 2018, Choi worked on her first acting projects, the short film I Want to Go to Paris and the play Grain in the Blood at the Doosan Art Center. In her first play, she portrayed Autumn, a girl waiting for her organ transplant. While a student at the Korea National University of Arts Acting Department, she appeared on the cover of popular university magazine Life Magazine College Tomorrow. As a result, she signed her first contract with an entertainment agency.

She appeared as the red-haired So Kyung-joo in her first movie, the Ma Dong-seok dramedy Start-Up (2019), learning boxing and winning her first award, Chunsa Best New Actress. Later, she debuted in television in a lead role as college student EO in “Joan's Galaxy,” the third episode of the MBC sci-fi anthology SF8. Her first lead role in film came next in Ten Months, an indie film screened at the 21st Jeonju International Film Festival.

In 2021, she portrayed the small-town butcher shop owner Yoo Jae-yi in the JTBC series and 57th Baeksang Best Drama Beyond Evil, earning her first Baeksang Arts Awards nomination for Best New Actress for TV. When Ten Months was shown commercially in cinemas in October, she earned another Baeksang Best New Actress nomination, this time, for film.

In her first main role in a web series, Netflix’s The Sound of Magic (2022), she portrayed high school student Yoon Ah-yi. It was challenging for her, compounded by the singing and dancing skills required by the role. Aside from successfully releasing seven tracks (including duets with Ji Chang-wook), she earned accolades in her performance as Ah-yi, who tries to recover her childhood innocence after meeting the mysterious magician Ri-eul played by Ji Chang-wook.

In her first variety show, Young Actors’ Retreat (2022), she had fun interactions with the rest of the cast of The Sound of Magic, as well as the stars from Love in the Moonlight (2016) and Itaewon Class (2020).

She recently played a prosecutor opposite Ju Ji-hoon and Park Sung-woong in last year’s Wavve original film Gentleman. Her next movie My Name Is Loh Kiwan will be from Netflix, where she portrays a South Korean shooter based in Belgium. Song Joong-ki plays the North Korean defector Loh Kiwan.
